Code of conduct

The organizers of SoUP 2024 are committed to making this school productive and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, career status, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, family situation, nationality or religion. We will not tolerate the harassment of participants in any form. This Code of Conduct does not duplicate or extend existing legal rights and obligations, nor is it an exhaustive list of “dos and don’ts”. It is intended to remind us how to conduct ourselves, treat others, and expect to be treated. It is designed to help us understand both our rights and our obligations.

We encourage continuous learning and development and value a proactive approach to acquiring and sharing information. We thus also encourage a culture of openness where all participants feel free to engage in a discussion about the Code of Conduct.

  • Behave professionally. Harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary comments or jokes are not appropriate.  Harassment also includes offensive comments related to gender, sexual orientation, age, career status, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, family situation, nationality or religion.
  • Respect, appreciate and value differences, foster equality and promote collaboration.
  • All communication should be appropriate for a professional audience including people of many different backgrounds.
  • Be kind to others. Treat others with tact, courtesy and respect.
  • Create and maintain a positive professional environment characterized by an atmosphere of tolerance and mutual respect.
  • Abstain from and actively discourage all forms of harassment and retaliation, as well as verbal, non-verbal, written or physical abuse.

Any participant who wishes to discuss this Code of Conduct or to report a violation of this policy is asked to speak, in confidence, to any member of the LOC. The SoUP 2024 school organizers may, after due consideration, take such action they deem appropriate, including warning or expulsion from the school.

This Code of Conduct is based on the ICHEP 2020 Code of Conduct.
